This eight week programme is based on the ground breaking work of Dr Jon Kabat Zinn at the Centre for Mindfulness in the University of Massachusetts Medical Centre (U Mass) In 1979 he began to teach patients the fundamentals of meditation to aid stress reduction. This course is now taught worldwide and it has helped improve thousands of lives and shown people how to use the skills of mindfulness to reduce the stress and pressures of everyday life. Research has shown that MBSR is beneficial to patients who have a variety of health conditions including the following: pain management, high blood pressure, cancer, respiratory illness, psoriasis, anxiety, panic disorders, depression, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia and many other common conditions.
This innovative 8 week programme was developed by Zindel Segal, Mark Williams, and John Teasdale building on the work of MBSR and applying aspects of cognitive behavioural therapy. It was designed for people who have experienced low mood or depression. It focuses on teaching participant to shift from automatic intrusive thoughts to a greater awareness of the thoughts process that can contribute to relapse of depressive episodes. Offering the possibility to develop supportive skilful action to promote mental health and welbeing.

There is much comment in the public media about concerns raised in relation to supporting young people who experience difficult life stress. There is strong evidence based research that suggests that mindfulness offers immense benefit to young people supporting mental health, helping them to learn more effectively, think more clearly. Young people who practice mindfulness report feeling calmer and less anxious and less prone to depression. The skills and practices are adapted to suit the needs of the young people.
Mindful Eating, Conscious LivingMany people suffer from a difficult relationship with food and eating using food to mask emotions. The media and advertising industry portray a much distorted view of body image causing many people to suffer from eating / food related disorders.
In this six week programme participants are introduced to using Mindfulness to help them develop a new more conscious and intentional relationship to eating and food.
These days are offered each month and are open to anyone who wants to take time out of the business of everyday life and to nourish themselves with mindful practice. People who have completed programmes welcome these days to support their continuing practice of mindfulness.
Keeping up a mindful practice can have its challenges there is a strength in practicing in a group with others .This weekly group offers a space for all to practice formal mindfulness meditation. It offers an opportunity to deepen your meditation and continuing your mindful practice making it an important source of nourishment in your life. This is a drop in group requiring no ongoing commitment. There is a small charge for this group.
